The Fight Against Alzheimer’s
Memory Care Upgrades to Villa Montagna at RVRB
Renaissance Village Rancho Belago is celebrating its fifth year of operations. Due to the increased market demand for Memory Care services, Lydia felt the community would benefit by upgrading its second Memory Care villa: Villa Montagna. In addition, the villa’s upgrades include a centralized and open floor plan, new paint and carpeting. The community is enjoying renewed market demand, which also is increasing the community’s occupancy.
Happy 102nd Birthday, Robert!
On Friday, June 7, residents and staff came together to celebrate resident, Robert’s 102nd birthday. We had Liz Ann, one of our regular Happy Hour entertainers. She also dressed as a Marilyn Monroe impersonator. In addition, she led the residents in a rendition of Marilyn’s famous “Happy Birthday, Mr. President” in honor of Robert.
Liz also performed various songs and tested residents with Marilyn Monroe trivia. In addition, the mayor of Moreno Valley also sent over a certificate for Robert honoring his 102nd birthday and his service as a member of the U.S. Army during World War II.
Partnering with Vista del Lago’s Health Academy
Renaissance Village Rancho Belago understands the importance of educating the next generation on how to care for seniors with memory loss issues. As a result, our Memory Care program partners with the Vista del Lago Health Academy to provide their students with real-world learning opportunities.
Vista del Lago’s Health Academy program is a four-year program funded by the California Partnership Academy. The innovative program’s design gives students an overview of the human body and its functions. They also address health care, career options, and a capstone course in one of five areas that prepares the student to work in health care.
Under the guidance of the academic advisor, Cindi Dolan, students put together a project to benefit residents in our Memory Care program. Over the last couple of years, students researched what activities are most beneficial for Memory Care residents. They then come in and also lead those activities for residents.
Activity Boards for Residents
This year, students researched activity boards and the best activities to include. In addition, they learned how to build an activity board. The activity boards provide manipulative opportunities for tactile stimulation. In addition, this stimulation occurs through residents moving their hands or completing familiar tasks.
Moreover, the stimulation is great for residents in higher stages of dementia or Alzheimer’s because there’s a high level of success. By completing the tasks of ringing a bell, latching a latch and so on, there’s an improvement in the senior’s mood and self-esteem. In addition, this can also ease their anxiety.
After much research, the students came together to create activity boards. Ascend Hospice and Bridge Home and Health Hospice financially supported students in this effort. The students then presented the activity boards to our Memory Care staff and residents on June 12. Renaissance Villages also appreciates the students’ efforts to come up with innovative ways to further engage with and create great days for our residents. We also appreciate their partnership in the fight against Alzheimer’s.

Renaissance Village Murrieta Opens Villa Terrazza
Renaissance Village Murrieta’s Assisted Living Villa is an excellent option for seniors looking for a more intimate and cozy living option. Our open and centralized plan also provides residents with added support and peace of mind knowing that caregivers are close by. In addition, residents enjoy the villa’s privacy for dining and participating in activities or go over to the community’s main building. Moreover, this living option is also one of the innovative ways Renaissance Village Murrieta meets the needs of seniors in the surrounding community.
Second Memory Care Building: Villa Montagna
The need for more Memory Care senior living options also continues to grow in Murrieta. Renaissance Village Murrieta opened its first Memory Care Villa in the Fall of 2018. The villa has seen exponential growth and is close to capacity. As a result, Renaissance Village Murrieta also plans to open its second Memory Care Villa. Villa Montagna plans to open by September 2019. The second villa provides an additional 25 beds for seniors and families seeking Memory Care services.
End Alzheimer’s Gala
According to the Alzheimer’s Association, there are 50 million people worldwide living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias. Together, we’re able to overcome Alzheimer’s disease. As a result, Renaissance Villages creates great opportunities to get the community involved in raising funds for the yearly Walk to End Alzheimer’s. This year, Renaissance Village Murrieta hosted their End Alzheimer’s Gala on Wednesday, June 26. Attendees enjoyed a delicious three-course meal and also heard the stories of various individuals’
stories of their experiences with Alzheimer’s and dementia. We were excited to see the community come together in the fight against Alzheimer’s. All proceeds from the event went to the 2019 Walk to End Alzheimer’s.
